Lake Arrowhead Attractions
Like nearby Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead was originally planned to supply water for irrigation and development near San Bernadino in the 19th century.
The lake was actually known as Little Bear Lake for a while (the stream that had been dammed was known as Little Bear stream).
However battles over water rights and technical problems with building the dam meant that it was not completed until the 1920s
By that time the owners had decided to turn the area into a mountain resort destination and Lake Arrowhead became a favoured vacation spot for Hollywood stars (and used as a location for a number of films).
The lake itself is nowadays in private hands - usage is managed by the Arrowhead Lake Association on behalf of the property owners around the lake. The surrounding mountains offer hiking and mountainbiking trails in the summer months and in winter there are two ski mountains nearby, with a cross-country area also close at hand.
