Big Bear Lake is the largest recreational body of water in southern California and is one of the premier mountain vacation spots in the region. It is located to the northeast of San Bernardino and is around two hours drive east from Los Angeles.

Big Bear Lake, California

The lake is actually a reservoir, which was built near the end of the 19th century. The first hotel by the lake was built a few years later and by the 1920s many thousands of visitors were staying at Big Bear Lake on busy weekends.

The lake itself is 7 miles long and has 22 miles of coastline and the main activity is the fishing. As well as the lake, the surrounding mountains offer activities with hiking and mountainbiking in summer and skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Many of the cabins in the area are situated in scenic locations around the shores of the lake.
